Proper Alignment of the Teeth

Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that focuses on the alignment of teeth and jaws. It is most commonly associated with wearing braces. Some of the common issues that require orthodontic care are:

  • Aesthetics
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crossbites
  • Open or deep bites
  • Overbites
  • Underbites

If you believe you need orthodontics, call Clifford Dental to discuss your options.

All About Braces

Traditional braces are brackets affixed to your teeth that are wired together to gradually adjust any teeth that are out of position. At Clifford Dental, we offer both metal and ceramic, tooth-colored brackets. Treatment varies, but braces are typically worn for 12-24 months and require checkups every 4-6 weeks to make any adjustments as the affected teeth move into their desired position.

Consider Invisalign

Invisalign aligners are a popular alternative to traditional braces. They use transparent plastic instead of brackets and wires. They are created using a mold of your teeth but are engineered so it is possible to make minor adjustments. Every time your teeth move to fit the aligner, a new one is applied. Therefore, progressive adjustments are made until your teeth have reached their desired position.

Removable Retainers

Retainers help your teeth maintain their position after straightening. Most retainers are removable by hand, so you can take them out during the day and put them back in at night. However, the type of retainer required will depend on the nature of the treatment. Removable retainers will usually need to be worn every night at first, but as time goes on, they may be worn less often until they’re no longer required.

Here at Clifford Dental, we’ll explain when and how to use your removable retainer. Following these instructions plays an important role in keeping your teeth in their post-treatment positions.
